...when we ran our 1/2 marathon we both said, "We couldn't care less about our time, we just want to finish." And we did, with a 2:10:30 time---not fabulous but not the worst, either.
This time we said, "We couldn't care less about our time, we just don't want to die." We'd mentioned the 4:30:00 cut off as a respectable time, but we decided we didn't really care. And I firmly believed that statement until just now.
I was reading through some running blogs and stumbled upon this fact, which hit me like a ton of bricks.
Oprah Winfrey ran her first and only marathon back in 1997 in 4:29:20. Dude, I really want to beat Oprah. My inner competitive athlete just emerged while sitting at this computer and I thought, "If freaking Oprah can run sub 4:30 then so can we."
And just like that I've decided that I care about our time. So now it's out here on the blogosphere, which means it's really going to suck if we post a 5:00:00 marathon or something....but whatever. Right now I want to beat Oprah and come in under 4:20:00. That would be exactly 10 minute miles, which is our average, but it won't allow for any walking/puking/dying/crying time.
But when I'm near death and my legs are burning, I will just picture rich Oprah [who I happen to love, by the way] sitting on her talk show couch and bragging that she ran a 4:29 marathon. Because if I'll never meet the legend in real life, at least I can beat her in a marathon, right?
Does that make me psycho or just competitive? It's not like I care about beating any 'real' people, or friends, or other bloggers [I'm sure they'd all whip my 4:20:00 goal anyway]. Just Oprah.
And I still don't want to die, either. I hope that's not too much to ask.

I told Cecelia that today was Kellan's birthday and she put on her inquisitive face. 'But God and Jesus don't know it's his birthday. I wonder what kind of presents he'll get in heaven? I hope he isn't getting wet in the rain.' We talked about how Kellan would have loved to have a superhero party and decided to sing him Happy Birthday. As soon as we were done singing, the wind started to blow Cecelia's hair and I was sort of speechless as I caught it on video. It gives me chills to watch it and the gorgeous rainbow that came after the storm tonight also seemed too perfect (although I didn't get that one on camera!). It might be a stretch to say those were signs from above that Kellan is still with us in spirit, but I choose to believe we'll meet him again someday.
Today was an ordinary day for us. A simple, mundane, ordinary day with our three healthy kids. Kite flying. Playing on the playground. Buying and planting flowers for our yard. Laughing together. Playing with the vintage Super Soakers Lois found in their basement. Eating dinner as a family. There is so much breathtaking beauty in the ordinary, and I thank God for the privilege of each passing day.

First up...Starbucks opened up a new store a few minutes from our house. This shopping center opened up 3 years ago & there wasn't a coffee shop. Kevin & I have been saying for 3 years that they need a coffee shop and FINALLY Starbucks opened earlier this month. Last weekend we rode our bikes with the girls to it & it only took 6 minutes door to door......FTW!
The girls hadn't been to the dentist in over 2 years because our last experience was HORRID. I found a new dentist for them & this place is AMAZING. Both girls loved it & happily had their teeth cleaned. They had no cavities and the girls want to brush AND floss everyday now.....FTW!I was cleaning out one of my old purses that I hadn't used in a year & guess what I found in one of the pockets? $40! FTW!

I had pretty much given up. Then, out of the blue, earlier this month, I was driving to a bridal shower & I was running late. I was at a stop sign and to my left was a garage sale. (Side note: I have never been to a garage sale) As I am waiting at the stop sign, I see THE HIGHCHAIR that I have been looking for. But, I was running late to the bridal shower, so I knew I couldn't stop & I kept driving. Then, I came to my senses 30 seconds later, flipped an illegal U-turn and drove back to the garage sale. I asked how much she was asking for the highchair. She said $50. All I had was a $20. She accepted!!!
Highchair, FTW!!!!!!!! (can't wait to spray paint it!)

Last week, Claire's Cowgirl Party was featured on Apartment Therapy's Ohdeedoh site. FTW!
Also last week, the girls were sick & I had to take an impromptu day off work.We hung out in our jammies until 11 am & did crafts. Lazy morning, FTW!
Claire still wasn't feeling well this weekend, so she stayed home with Kevin while Kate & I had a date day on Saturday. We headed to the Pumpkin Jubilee in our town. Quality 1 on 1 time with my oldest, FTW!Kate (wearing last year's pumpkin shirt) sat at this table & we crafted for almost an hour. FTW!
Sunday was spent dealing with 2 little girls who were still sick with nasty croupy coughs. Luckily, our doctor's office is open on the weekend & we got right in. FTW!
I have been wanting to see Bridesmaids since it was in the theaters, but we never saw it. I have been trying to get it at Redbox, but it is always sold out. Finally got it this weekend. Rebdbox $1.00 rentals, FTW!
And, finally...is there anything better by crawling into your bed with shaved legs & clean sheets? FTW!
