Family Room Updates
We aren't there yet, but more progress has been made! The biggest excitement in our family room is that we FINALLY have some privacy and have duettes! I had these in my condo and loved them and knew we needed them in our family room once we saved enough money. It took three years but we have them!
The pictures are wretch, but you can sort of see them. Here they are in the center of the window...
...and how we usually have them in the afternoon/evening...
Not nearly as exciting, (but made a big impact) we moved around some art! This was in our dining room and the colors weren't working anymore, so we moved it to the family room. Perfect! And filled this bare wall!

Dining Room Curtains
We ordered our dining room curtains the same time we ordered our front room curtains and they finally came! I am now officially curtain obsessed and want to make sure all of our windows have treatments!
Our dining room looked very plain before (Chimi thought so, too, and left her seal toy in the pic).
I like how you can see both rooms of curtains standing in one spot.
Things are coming together! One of my biggest projects next is picking out a lot of wall colors. I would have every wall in a bold color if it was up to me, but Nate would leave as is if it were up to him. So we have some negotiating to do.

Key Components of Baby Proofing Your Child’s Room
Our little baby has grown into a mover and a shaker. She is crawling everywhere, and very soon she will be walking. Ruby has grown so fast! Along with her new mobility, she relishes her new independence to explore the house on her own. One of her favorite activities is to pull nightlights out of the sockets. (Looks like we need some more baby proof Sidelites you can buy here.) And today I caught splashing her hands in the toilet. Gross.
As your baby grows, it is important to make sure his or her surroundings are safe. I am so happy that the ladies at Modernize agreed to write some safety tips for baby proofing your child's bedroom. Enjoy the wise words below!

Key Components of Baby Proofing Your Child’s Room

Setting up a nursery is an exciting and important part of waiting for baby to arrive. While the first few months of your baby’s life are filled with night feedings, constant diaper changes, and lots of schedule adjustments, things soon change. After your little one becomes mobile, your attention turns to keeping her out of harm’s way when on the move. Here are the basics for baby proofing your child’s room so she, and you, can enjoy it safely.
Furniture
Once your baby is on the move (crawling, pulling up, standing) make sure your crib is on the lowest height setting and that any cot bumpers or other toys are out of the crib. If you’ve made the switch to toddler bed, consider a safety rail to stop nighttime rolling onto the floor. As far as other bedroom furniture is concerned, make sure heavy units are stable enough not to topple over when climbed on. To be extra safe, harness the tops of the units to the wall using furniture tethers. Remove as many potential climbing aides from the room, because once your baby learns how to climb, she will.

Windows
Blind cords and drapes can be strangulation hazards, so make sure to tie them up securely out of reach. As far as windows are concerned, once your children can reach the windowsill (with or without climbing!) make sure to keep windows securely locked. If this isn’t a possibility due to weather, invest in safety locks that allow windows to open only partially. The financial layout here will be more than repaid with your peace of mind.

Outlets and wiring
Children have an uncanny ability to find and touch anything they’re not supposed to, so ensure all unused outlets are covered with plug covers. Lamps, baby monitors, and any other electrical appliances should be kept out of reach and any cords or wires concealed behind shelving or other furniture to prevent falling or potential strangulation hazards.

Choking hazards
If your child’s bedroom doubles as a playroom, just be sure that any toys with small pieces are kept out of the room at nap and bedtimes. Just as you think your little ones have passed the oral fixation stage, they surprise you with their rediscovered penchant for sticking things in their mouths. Small toys aren’t the only risk here; coins from piggy banks and jewelry are also particularly enticing for children.

Doors and stairs
Safety gates on stairs or doorways stop children stumbling in the night and getting into potentially dangerous situations. Choose mounted or pressure fit safety gates to suit your needs and keep your baby safe. As for doors, consider fitting a door stopper around the doorknobs to stop your child slamming, pinching fingers, and accidentally locking herself in or out of her room.

Extra security
If you’ve done all you can to babyproof your child’s room but are still anxious about safety, consider investing in a video monitor (if you don’t have one already). Knowing exactly what your kids get up to when you’re not in the room is invaluable when it comes to your peace of mind.

Guest Room Makeover!
It's (basically) done! We finally have ONE guest bedroom that is complete. Never thought I would see the day! Remember the before? It looks so much more finished now and is much cuter in person than in pictures. Come stay over and see! :) Really the only people that use this room are my parents and my bro/SIL/nephew when they come into town. Hope you guys like the changes!
The only things we had to do since Nate had already painted was to hang a few things we already owned but were in closet storage/not in use. Nate had some old Ikea canvases that are in grey tones so they work in here. We love how the bedding is so powerful that everything else needs to be muted around it.

The one purchase (other than the paint) was the floating shelves set from Target. They came with frames, so of course we had to use pictures of the little girls. They are stainless looking, but in here they just look grey which works.

Kates Purple Room
Kate's new Purple Bedroom is finished!
We painted it on New Year's Eve & her new bedding that arrived this week.
Her bedroom re-do is an early birthday present from my mother in law.
Today we set up her new bedding & accessories and surprised Kate when she came home from Grandma's.
Come on in & have a look around!

I'm not going to lie....It was hard to paint it purple.I am NOT a purple fan. AT ALL.
BUT.
This is Kate' room and she has been asking for a purple room for the past 8 months.
For being a purple room, I do think it turned out cute & Kate LOVES it.
Oh yeah, and now Claire wants a purple room. NOT going to happen!Claire's room is pink (my favorite color) and it will stay pink for at least 10 years :)

We ordered her bedding {HERE}.
At first, we weren't going to get her new bedding, but her old bedding didn't match her room anymore & my mother in law offered to get her bedding as part of her birthday present.I LOVE Kate's old bedding so much & it matches Claire's room perfectly, so when Claire moves to a big girl bed I will use Kate's old bedding.
These lamp shades were on clearance at Pottery Barn Kids for $10. Score!

This afternoon when I put Claire down for a nap, I heard Kate talking in her room.This is what I saw:
She had her toy camera out & was taking pictures of her new room. She was telling her bed to say "cheese"
I am so happy she loves her new room.
Knowing she loves it so much makes it easier for me to accept that I have a purple room in my house :)
